When the Obama presidency was young I used to get email almost every day on behalf of Terry Lakin and his quest.
The link to the Maryland lawyer, Tracy Fair, leads to a belt-and-suspenders case for declaring the Obama presidency completely bogus. On the one hand, he was born in Kenya. On the other, it doesn’t matter where he was born because he’s not a “natural born citizen”—thanks to his Kenyan father. As the Constitution fails to define “natural born citizen,” Fair leans heavily on the authority of Emer de Vattel, a Swiss philosopher who gave it some thought in a book called The Law of Nations: or the Principles of Natural Law Applied to the Conduct and to the Affairs of Nations and of Sovereigns, that he wrote in 1758. It apparently was read closely by various Founding Fathers—George Washington checked it out of the library in 1789 and never returned it. And there’s a line in it about children being the nationality of their fathers.
